Ausência na Presença (Absence in Presence) arises from a place of slow, invisible, almost imperceptible loss — an erasure that does not tear but fades away. Inspired by an intimate experience with dementia, it seeks to build an emotional and sensory approach to what cannot be precisely translated: disorientation, the breaking of the timeline, the dissolution of identity. More than representing a clinical condition, this work evokes an absent presence, a body that remains while everything else fades. Memory, that fragile architecture where we reside, begins to give way, and with it, names, places, voices. The familiar turns into strangeness. This work offers no paths nor consolation. Instead, it proposes a space of radical empathy, where one experiences the oscillation between recognizing and forgetting, between being and ceasing to be.

In this work, it was important for me to explore memory and the loss of identity. After all, if I don't remember the micro and macro events that shaped me, if I can't distinguish what I stand for from what I fight against, how do I know who I am?
Do I remain myself if I don't remember who I am?
Do I still exist?
